Learn more about superbills and how to submit them.

Updated over a week ago

A superbill is an itemized statement you can submit to your insurance company to request reimbursement for services when Grow Therapy is out of network with your insurance. This article addresses the most common questions about superbills to help you navigate the reimbursement process.

⚠️ Note: Always confirm with your insurance provider whether Grow Therapy is out-of-network for your plan before submitting a superbill. If Grow Therapy is in-network, submitting a superbill may cause delays in reimbursement.

What is a superbill?

A superbill is a document that you can submit to your insurance company after receiving services from a provider. It serves as a detailed receipt for your visit and includes additional information, such as diagnosis and procedure codes, that insurers need to process your reimbursement. Superbills help ensure that you are reimbursed for services you've paid out of pocket.

What information does a superbill include?

A typical superbill includes:

  • Provider details (name, address, phone number)

  • Date of service

  • Total amount charged for services and payment made

  • The balance due

  • Tax ID

  • NPI number

  • State license number

  • Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes

  • Diagnosis codes

  • The provider's signature

Why do I need a superbill?

You will need a superbill if Grow Therapy is out-of-network with your insurance and you pay for services out of pocket (also known as “cash pay”). After paying for your session, you can submit the superbill to your insurance provider to request reimbursement.

How do I submit a superbill?

Once you have paid for your session and confirmed that Grow Therapy is out-of-network, follow these steps:

  1. Request the superbill from your provider after receiving services.

  2. Contact your insurance company to learn their process for submitting out-of-network claims (some insurers offer online portals or specific mailing addresses).

  3. Submit the superbill along with any required documentation to your insurer. Be sure to follow their specific claim submission process.

  4. Track your claim and monitor its status with your insurer to ensure reimbursement.

What happens if I submit a superbill and Grow Therapy is in-network?

It’s crucial to confirm whether Grow Therapy is in-network with your insurance before submitting a superbill. If Grow Therapy is in-network, submitting a superbill could cause confusion and delays. Your insurance company will pay Grow Therapy directly, not you, which may result in payment delays.

How do I know if my superbill is correct?

To ensure your superbill contains accurate information, verify the following:

  • Correct provider details (name, address, NPI number)

  • Accurate procedure and diagnosis codes (CPT, ICD-10)

  • Dates of service match your visit

  • The total amount charged matches what you paid or owe

If you notice any discrepancies, contact your provider.

What if I lose my superbill?

If you lose your superbill, contact your provider as soon as possible. They can issue a replacement or provide a new one. Be sure to request it promptly to avoid delays in submitting your insurance claim.
