End care with your provider

Explore options to pause sessions, end care, or switch to a new provider.

There are many reasons you might want to stop or change your sessions on Grow, whether you've reached your goals, your needs have shifted, or life has gotten in the way. This article walks you through your options: pausing care, ending care, or getting rematched with a new provider.

Not sure yet if you're ready to stop? Visit When am I done with therapy? for guidance on how to reflect on your readiness with your therapist.

Key Points:

  • If you aren't ready to end therapy completely, you can pause care or request a rematch with a new provider (i.e., change provider).

  • You can end care by messaging your provider through your client portal. A short, direct message is all that's needed.

  • You don't need to delete your account to stop sessions or avoid future charges.

  • If you're unable to reach your provider or don't feel comfortable contacting them, our Support Team can help.

⚠️ Important: If you have upcoming sessions scheduled, cancel them before ending care to avoid being charged. You can cancel any appointment that is more than 24 hours away directly in your client portal.

Alternatives to ending care

If you're not ready to entirely end care, here are a couple of options that may better fit your current needs:

Pause care

Need to take a break without making a permanent change? You can request to pause care with your provider. This option is great if you're unsure about next steps or need time to reset. As long as you do not have any upcoming appointments scheduled, you will not be charged during the pause.

Get rematched with a new provider

Your needs may evolve, and sometimes that means outgrowing your current provider. If your goals have shifted or the connection no longer feels right, you can request a change by being rematched with a new provider. Refer to this article for instructions on how to submit a rematch request.

How to end care

Contact your provider

If you feel comfortable doing so, messaging your provider directly through your client portal is the most straightforward way to end care. Providers understand that needs and circumstances change.

If you're unsure how to phrase it, a short message like, "I've decided to take a break from sessions and wanted to let you know," is perfectly okay. Your provider will take it from there.

⚠️ Important: You don't need to delete your account to stop sessions or prevent future charges. Ending or pausing care with your provider is sufficient.

Contact Support

If you are unable to reach your provider or do not feel comfortable ending care with them directly, the Support Team is here to help. Use the Help Widget in your client portal to connect with a representative. They can contact your provider on your behalf or help facilitate the rematching process.
