Remove a two-step verification method

Remove a phone number or authenticator app from your two-step verification settings.

If you've switched phone numbers, changed authenticator apps, or want to clean up your verification methods, this article walks you through removing a method from your account. Keep in mind that you'll need at least one verification method on file at all times β€” if the option to remove is grayed out, add a new method first, then return to remove the old one.

🌟TIP: Got a new phone or need to add a backup method? See Add a two-step verification method. To set up two-step verification for the first time, see Enable two-step verification. If you run into issues, visit our two-step verification troubleshooting guide.

Key Points

  • You must have at least one verification method on your account at all times. If the remove option is grayed out, it's because you only have one method on file β€” add a new one first, then remove the old one.

  • You'll need to verify your identity using your current method before making any changes to your security settings.

  • Removing a method does not disable two-step verification. To turn it off entirely, contact our Support Team.
