When do I select CPT codes?
When confirming a session and submitting an invoice, Grow will suggest a CPT code based on your session details. Selecting the right code gives Grow what it needs to file the claim, bill the client, and process payment.
Suggested codes appear at the top of the "Session type" drop-down. You can scroll to see the full list. An explainer of these codes is available here. If a code isn't on the list, it may not be in our contract with our payors.
Why can't I find the code I'm looking for?
To keep invoicing accurate, Grow runs two checks during CPT selection:
Grow automatically records the time you and your client were in a Grow telehealth session and populates the actual time in session.
Grow checks that your selected CPT code matches the recorded session duration.
For example, if the system detects a 30-minute session, CPT codes exceeding 30 minutes will not be surfaced as suggestions.
Can I still use my preferred codes if they're not recommended?
The system recommends codes based on the attributes listed above. However, therapists may still override the automation and select any clinically appropriate CPT code. The system is designed to provide guidance but not override clinical expertise.
To manually select a CPT code, select the drop-down menu in the "Session type" section of the invoice. Scroll down to select view all codes.
For additional troubleshooting, see Resolve session type & time invoice errors.
Why are certain codes recommended over others?
Grow's billing system analyzes key billing attributes to surface codes with the highest acceptance probability:
Client relationship: The distinction between new and established clients determines the appropriate code categories.
Session characteristics, including duration, type, and clinical details, inform recommendations.
Payor requirements: Insurance-specific guidelines influence code suggestions.
