Between-session resources

💡 Recommended actions

  • What are recommended actions? Recommended actions are helpful prompts that appear on your home screen. They highlight important tasks you may want to complete before your next session, so you always know what to do next.

  • How are recommended actions determined? Grow uses information like your upcoming appointments and how soon they are, then suggests steps that can help you stay prepared and on track.

  • What kinds of prompts might I see? You may see reminders for key tasks, such as completing forms, updating information, or taking care of important between-session steps, that can help support a smoother therapy experience.

🧰 Therapy toolkit

  • What is the therapy toolkit? The therapy toolkit is a dedicated space for therapy-related resources — both those shared by your provider and curated by Grow Therapy.

  • What types of resources are included? Here, you can find articles, videos, worksheets, and podcasts, recent session topics, session insights, and more.

  • Where do I find resources shared by my provider? Provider-sent resources appear at the top of your therapy toolkit.

  • Can I search for specific content? Yes. Use filters to search by goal (e.g., anxiety, relationships, self-esteem) or by resource type (e.g., video, worksheet, article).

  • Can I view past session summaries? Yes. You can view previous session insights unless your provider chooses not to share them.

  • Can my provider see what content I engage with? Yes. Providers can view forms you've filled out.

  • Am I required to use the therapy toolkit? No. All resources are optional.

💬 Coach

🚨 Disclaimer: Coach is not a crisis tool. If you or someone you know is in crisis or needs immediate help, please call 911 or +1 800-273-8255 to speak with a crisis counselor. Additional emergency resources can be found here.

  • What is coach? Coach is an optional AI-powered chat feature designed to enhance your therapy experience by providing relevant support between sessions. You can use coach to:

    • Reflect on your day.

    • Walk through a tough situation.

    • Reinforce skills from therapy sessions.

  • Does coach cost extra? No. Coach is included as part of your Grow Therapy plan—no hidden fees or add-ons.

  • Is engaging with coach the same as talking to my therapist? No. Coach is a support tool, not a healthcare provider or a substitute for sessions with your therapist. It does not diagnose, prescribe, treat, or replace human care.

  • Is anyone reading my messages in real time? No. Coach is AI-powered. If the system detects a safety concern, it will show you crisis resources and alert your provider, but they may not see the message in real time.

  • Can my therapist view my coach chat history? Yes—by default, your therapist can see your chats. This gives them more context to prepare for sessions and provide the best care. If you’d rather keep a conversation private, you can switch to private mode by tapping the eye icon. In this mode, your chats stay private unless a potential safety concern is detected.

  • Am I required to use coach? No. It's completely optional.

  • Why don't I see coach in my app? If coach isn't available, you may be using the limited engagement version of the app, which doesn't include coach.

  • Can coach help me prepare for sessions? Yes. Coach can help you create a list of session topics to discuss with your provider, ensuring you get the most out of each appointment.

💬 Session topics

  • What are session topics? Session topics are prompts or ideas you'd like to cover during your therapy sessions. When you ask coach to generate them, they'll automatically appear in the Session topics tab, accessible from the therapy toolkit page.

  • How does the session topics feature work? You'll receive a notification inviting you to share what's top of mind. Coach will then help you outline a list of relevant topics and provide a link to the session topic management page, where you can view or edit them. You can also ask coach to add new session topics at any time.

  • What if I see multiple providers? If you work with more than one provider, coach will create session topics for the provider you have an upcoming appointment with. If no future appointments are scheduled, topics will be created for the provider you saw most recently.

  • How do I view my session topic list? Navigate to the Therapy Toolkit page and select Review session topics to view your full list.

Data storage and protection

📌 Note: For more information about how we protect your data, please review our Privacy Notice and Notice of Privacy Practices.

  • How is my data protected when using coach? Your privacy is a top priority. We use several safeguards to protect your data during coach chats:

    • All coach messages are encrypted and securely stored in accordance with HIPAA.

    • By default, only you and your provider(s) can view your messages. If you turn on Private Mode, only you can see them (unless there's a potential safety risk, as explained above).

    • On rare occasions, a small, HIPAA-trained Grow Therapy team may review messages solely for quality and compliance. These reviews are never used for marketing or advertising.

    • While coach is powered by AI, your messages are not used to train external AI models.

    • You can request a copy or deletion of your data at any time using this form. Certain information may need to be retained longer if required by legal, tax, or industry regulations. Learn more here.

  • What data is stored from between-session actions? We store a limited set of between-session data to support personalization and care continuity, including session topics, coach conversations, and completed resources. This does not include medical record data, provider session notes, or clinical insights. Those are stored separately in accordance with standard clinical documentation policies.

  • Why is between-session information stored? Storing this data helps us:

    • Personalize your care experience.

    • Maintain continuity if care is paused and restarted.

    • Suggest relevant resources and conversation prompts.

  • How long is this data stored? We have the following policy for between-session data:

    • Data is retained while you're in active care.

    • Once care ends (you are discharged from all providers, or you have no appointments for 60 days), data is retained for 60 days. After that, the data is automatically deleted.

    • In some cases, limited personal information may need to be retained longer if required by legal or regulatory obligations. Learn more here.

  • Is between-session engagement part of the medical record? No. Activity between sessions is not part of your official medical record. However, providers may choose to document relevant details in their clinical notes around a client's between-session activity, which would then become part of the medical record.

Data included as part of clinical documentation—such as session insights and provider session notes—remains separate and follows standard healthcare retention requirements.
