Grow Therapy partners with Teach For America (TFA) to expand access to mental health care for TFA corps members. Through this collaboration, eligible corps members receive up to 20 EAP sessions per benefit year (September 1–August 31), which are fully covered by Teach For America as part of their benefits package.
Key Takeaways
This benefit covers TFA corps members only. Dependents and household members are not covered.
Clients get up to 20 sessions per benefit year (September 1–August 31).
No-shows and late cancellations count against the 20-session total.
Corps members with this benefit must book through the dedicated TFA directory to use their sessions.
Overview
These sessions are booked directly via the dedicated Grow Therapy Teach For America benefit directory rather than through the general Grow provider directory. Corps members can choose from any Grow provider who is licensed in their state, credentialed, and enrolled to see clients using the TFA benefit.
Providers with a master's-level license or below are auto-credentialed for this benefit nationwide.
Even clients whose primary insurance isn't accepted by their provider can still use their 20 covered sessions. To continue care afterward, they can either self-pay or work with a provider who does accept their insurance.
Accept or opt out of the TFA benefit
You do not have to accept the TFA benefit. Providers are auto-opted in and can opt out at any time. To manage which payors you accept, navigate to the Referrals & payors section of your provider portal to toggle specific payors on or off.
To manage your referral preferences in your provider portal:
Log in to your provider portal.
Select your name in the bottom left and select Settings.
Under the "Appointments" header, select Referrals & payors.
From the "Payors" section, scroll down to locate "Active enrollments."
From here, confirm your preferences by toggling each payor on or off in the "Accepting" column.
Changes are saved automatically once you select a reason for opting out.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Are prescribers eligible for this program?
Only therapists are eligible to accept TFA clients.
If I turn this benefit on, how many clients can I expect?
As with any payor, there is no guarantee for how many client intakes you can expect. If you're interested in taking on more clients, we recommend refreshing your profile with specialties, an upgraded headshot, and more details about the kinds of clients you prefer to work with.
Where can I find the rates?
To find the rates for the TFA benefit, access the Referrals & payors section of your provider portal.
Can I charge for no-shows or late cancellations?
Yes, providers should still submit invoices for late cancellations and no-shows for clients with the TFA benefit. Payouts will be based on the corresponding rate for CPT code 90837. No-show and late-cancellation fees count against the client's 20-session total, and it's up to the provider to invoice them.
See Charge for a no-show or late cancellation for a detailed walkthrough.
What issues can I address under EAP sessions?
Typically, workplace-related stress, anxiety, or life events. However, flexibility exists based on client needs; your clinical judgment guides the conversation.
How fast can I start?
Eligible providers are auto-enrolled in the TFA benefit. As long as your referrals toggle for TFA clients is on, you can start receiving referrals right away on September 1, 2026.
Do I need to provide any extra documentation when seeing TFA clients?
No. Providers who see clients with the TFA benefit use the same note templates and standards as for all other clients.
Can my client's employer or Teach For America access their information or session information?
No. Grow Therapy never shares session details or notes with an employer or benefits provider.
Do clients have to use all their sessions with the same provider?
No. Clients are welcome to use their sessions with any provider accepting the TFA benefit.
Do unused sessions roll over?
This benefit includes 20 sessions per person, per benefit year (September 1–August 31). Unused sessions do not roll over and refresh at the start of each new benefit year.
Can clients apply the TFA benefit to past sessions and receive a refund?
No. The TFA benefit can only be applied to sessions held after a client enrolls in the program. Sessions completed before enrollment, including those paid for through insurance or self-pay, are not eligible for retroactive coverage or refunds.
What happens when all sessions are completed?
After a client completes their 20 covered sessions, they can either continue care with their provider using insurance (if you accept their plan) or elect to self-pay. If you don't accept a client's primary insurance, they may need to be matched with a new provider to continue care after their 20 sessions. Learn how to refer a client directly in your provider portal in Refer a client to another Grow Therapy provider.
Can spouses, household members, or dependents also use the TFA benefit?
No. The TFA benefit covers corps members only. Spouses, dependents, and household members are not eligible for coverage under this benefit.
Do I need to keep track of the client's remaining sessions?
Providers and clients can view remaining sessions in both the provider and client portals, just as they're tracked for other EAP benefits. Clients will also receive three automatic email reminders about their remaining sessions.
Is couples counseling covered under this benefit?
Yes. Couples counseling is covered when the corps member is the client and is present for the session; partners are not covered independently.
If a client with this benefit is already using Grow, how do they receive their sessions?
If a client is already using Grow Therapy, they will need to talk to the Client Billing Support team directly to apply the TFA benefit sessions to their account. If their current provider does not accept the TFA benefit, they will be asked if they would like to find a provider who does.
Where can I direct clients with this benefit if they have questions?
Clients can contact Support via live chat in their client portal, through the TFA benefits page, or by calling 1(203) 280-1998.
