Teach for America corps member benefit overview

Learn how to book therapy sessions and manage your benefit as a Teach for America corps member

Grow Therapy partners with Teach for America (TFA) to give corps members access to mental health support. This guide provides an overview of the program and explains how to book your first appointment using your corps member benefit.

Key Points

  • Corps members receive 20 therapy sessions per benefit period, covered under your TFA benefit. This benefit period runs September 1, 2026 through August 31, 2027.

  • This benefit is available only to corps members; dependents and other household members aren't eligible.

  • No-shows and late cancellations (cancellations within 24 hours of an upcoming appointment) count toward your 20-session total.

  • Unused sessions don't roll over into the next benefit period.

  • Booking is done through a dedicated TFA benefit page, where you can filter for providers and schedule directly from a provider's profile.

Program overview

Through this partnership, you can book with any Grow Therapy provider who:

  • Has opted in to support TFA corps members

  • Holds an active license in the state where you're receiving care

This benefit covers individual therapy sessions as well as joint sessions where you're present (for example, with a partner or family member). Sessions involving only your partner or family member, without you present, aren't covered under this benefit.

This benefit is available for therapy only. It doesn't cover services from prescribers.

Because you're employed by your school district rather than by TFA directly, Grow doesn't have visibility into your insurance details. You can add insurance information when booking; it's optional and helps us match you with a provider who can continue seeing you after your 20 sessions are used. You'll also receive reminder emails as you use your sessions, so you always know how many you have left.

Use your benefit as a new client

Follow these steps to find a provider who's right for you and schedule your first appointment:

  • Use the search filters to select the state where you'll receive care and any therapy needs.

  • Select Search.

  • When prompted, optionally select your insurance provider from the drop-down, then select See results. This helps ensure continuity of care after your 20th session.

  • You'll see a list of providers who match your criteria and accept the TFA benefit. Use the additional filters at the top of the page to refine your results.

  • Browse provider profiles to learn more about their background, specialties, and availability. When you're ready, select Book session on their profile or choose a time directly from their availability calendar.

  • Complete the booking form with your personal information, and optionally add your insurance details to receive a cost estimate for additional sessions after your benefit is completed.

  • Review and accept Grow Therapy policies, then select Book now to confirm your appointment.

  • A confirmation message will appear with a link to activate your client portal. You'll also receive a confirmation email.

Continue care after your benefit ends

After you use your 20 covered sessions, you can continue care with your provider using insurance (if they accept your plan) or by self-paying. If your provider doesn't accept your plan, you can match with a new provider to continue care.

You'll receive a message, a portal task, and an email prompting you to confirm your coverage details before continuing care:

  • Select the prompt or the Confirm coverage link in the pop-out message.

  • Select Insurance to add coverage details or Pay-out-of-pocket if you're opting to self-pay. Select Continue. If you self-pay, you'll be billed at the self-pay rate. See Self-pay for out-of-network providers for details.

⚠️ Important: Clients with active, accepted insurance coverage are required to use their benefits for eligible services. If you choose to see a provider who is out of network or does not accept your insurance, you may opt to self-pay for sessions, meaning you'll be responsible for the full cost of care.

  • If you're using insurance, select your insurance from the drop-down menu, enter your member ID, then select Verify & estimate cost to verify coverage. Select Continue.

  • Enter your payment details. Grow Therapy requires a valid debit or credit card on file to pay for patient-responsible costs such as copays, deductibles, and coinsurance. Select Continue.

  • A confirmation message will appear, and your insurance details will be reflected in the Coverage tab of your Account dashboard.
