Couples and family therapy can play a crucial role in the healing process by providing a supportive environment to strengthen your relationships. Grow Therapy makes it simple to start therapy with your loved ones. This guide explains how the process works and how to prepare for and attend your first session.

  • Use the Grow Directory filters and select Couples Counseling or Family Therapy to browse available providers.

  • The primary insurance holder should schedule the appointment.

  • Complete intake forms in the Client Portal before your first session. Only the person who scheduled the appointment needs to fill them out.

  • Only the person booking the session needs a Grow Therapy account. Additional participants can join using the Grow Telehealth link.

  • Participants can join the session from different locations, but your provider must be licensed in both states if you live separately.


Schedule an appointment


To book a couples or family therapy session as a new Grow Therapy client:

  • Under the Treatment methods tab, select Couples Counseling or Family Therapy to narrow your search to providers who offer these services.

  • Browse the list of providers and select one who meets your needs.

  • Use the provider's availability calendar to choose a time that works for you.

  • Complete the booking form. Make sure the primary insurance holder is scheduling the appointment and that the name in the "Client information" section matches the name on the insurance card for billing purposes.

  • Click Book now to confirm the appointment.

  • A confirmation message will appear. You will also receive a confirmation email with the appointment details at the address you provided.

Before your first session, complete all intake forms in your client portal. Only the person who scheduled the session needs to fill out the forms.

To help your provider better understand your needs, you can include relevant information in your intake paperwork or use the secure messaging feature in your client portal to connect with your provider directly.

Join the session


You can join your therapy session using the telehealth link at your scheduled appointment time. The link is available in your client portal, as well as in your appointment reminder notifications and calendar invite.

If your partner or family member will join the session remotely, you can share the telehealth link with them ahead of time. Participants must be located in the same state. If you and your partner or family are in different states, the provider must be licensed in both.

To join your session:

  • Click the telehealth link.

  • Enter your first and last name when prompted, then click Enter waiting room.

  • Remain in the waiting room until your provider admits you to the session.

  • If you have any pending mental health check-ins, you will be prompted to complete them.

  • Once your provider admits all participants, your session will begin.

Can my partner or family member attend from a different location? Yes. Your partner or family member can join remotely using the telehealth link.

What if we live in different states? If you and your partner or family member live in different states, you will need to find a provider licensed in both.

Do both people need their own accounts? No. Only the person booking the session needs a Grow Therapy account. The other participant can join via the telehealth link.

Can I reschedule or cancel the session? Yes. Log in to your client portal to make changes to the appointment time or contact your provider directly. Be sure to review your provider's cancellation policy beforehand.
