Enroll a minor in therapy and activate their client portal

Learn how to book an appointment and create an account for a minor.

Updated this week

Grow Therapy offers support at every stage of life, including childhood and adolescence. If you are a parent or guardian of a minor seeking mental health services, our platform makes it easy for you to help them get started with the care they need. This guide walks you through the steps to set up an account for a minor and how to transition it when they turn 18.

Schedule an appointment

Follow these steps to enroll a child or adolescent in therapy:

  • Use the Grow Therapy Marketplace to search for a therapist who fits your child's needs. For tips on using the search tool effectively, refer to this guide.

  • Once you've selected a provider and confirmed they work with your child's age group, choose your preferred appointment time and click Book session.

πŸ“Œ Note: If your child doesn't have an email address or phone number, you may enter your own. This contact information will be used as the primary way Grow Therapy communicates with the client.

  • Enter your contact information in the "Authorized consent" section to provide consent for care. If you are registering as a parent or guardian, check the box to indicate if custody is shared. If checked, additional fields will appear to collect the contact information of the other parent who shares legal responsibility for the child's care.

Manage account access

Parent/guardian access

πŸ‘€ Primary parents/guardians have full access to the client portal, which includes the ability to view and manage account details, appointments, and billing information.

πŸ‘₯ Secondary parents/guardians will receive email notifications about upcoming appointments, but do not have full access to the account. The secondary parent/guardian is the information provided under "Other parent/guardian" in the authorized consent portion during the booking process.

Transition at age 18

When your child turns 18, you can request that the account login credentials be updated to reflect their contact information, giving them full control of their therapy account moving forward. To begin this process, please contact Support.

Informed consent requirements

When booking your child's first therapy session, you'll be asked to review and agree to a series of consent checkboxes and complete an Informed Consent Form to confirm your approval for treatment.

If the client's parents are separated or share legal guardianship, it is essential that the other parent or legal guardian also provides consent. Any additional legally authorized representatives must submit their consent through the appropriate channels before therapy can begin.
